A Hero's Journey

This week, one thing that was very interesting was thinking about all of the people that I want on my Board of Associates. I think this may be one of the very most important things that we do is get the right people on board with us so that we can be successful. Another thing that was interesting was the video "A Hero's Journey." One thing that stood out to me in this video is that "what matters most is not the prize in the end, but how the hero is changed in the process (Brian Carter)." The journey is what is most important. We should not go out just trying to make money because that is something that will just come naturally, but we should go into business trying to make the world better and to become a better person. If we have this as our focus, then everything else will fall into place.

Never Give Up

One thing that stood out to me in the readings and videos this week is that we are not alone. We have the help of the Lord and His gospel to guide us along the way. One of the videos mentioned that there are going to be lots of people who don't believe in us and what we want to do. This is just like Nephi with his older brothers who thought he could not build a boat and he could not get the plates, but we know that we can do Anything with the help of the Lord. A lot of times, our goals may seem too big for our own good and we might feel that we just can't do any more, but we have to remember that we are not alone. The Lord will help us accomplish the things that we must to in this life. We just have to follow his guidance as we go through our lives. Weighing the Costs

This week has been helpful in understanding some of the things that are more difficult about becoming an entrepreneur. As I read Randy Haykin's case study, I came to understand a little more about some of the struggles that entrepreneurs have to go through, even when they are very successful. There are always risks and challenges that come our way when we are trying to do something new and different. Some of these struggles are going to involves the lives of others around us and not just ourselves. It seems that these are going to be the most difficult struggles of all. When it is just yourself who has to take the fall when things go wrong in your business, it does not seem as bad. When it is your own family and also the families of many individuals who work under you that have the risk of losing the jobs or not being successful, this seems like much more of a risk.
