Good to Great
Last semester, I had the opportunity to read Jim Collins' book "Good to Great." It was a very interesting, easy to read and understand, and insightful book. One of the most important things that I learned from that book, and it was also mentioned in a video that we watched this week, is that good is an enemy to great. There are so many things in this world that I feel I am good at, but I will never be great at any of them as long as I am good at them. You cannot be great without leaving the comfort of good. This is an important idea to apply to many aspects of our lives. If I want to be a great visiting teacher, I cannot just be a good one. I have to move beyond my comfort zones in order to become better than I am. This means a change in my daily routines and in the things that I see as most important. If I want to become a great housekeeper, I can't just keep doing the same things that I am doing now or else I will always just be good. If I am satisfied with being just good, that is fine, but if I want to be great, something will have to change.
