Capstone

There are so many things that I have learned through the course of this semester, but there are some things that stick out more than others that I will be sure to take with me and to apply to my business career in the future. The first of these is that I truly do have a desire to be an entrepreneur. When I started this course, I was just trying to get my degree so that I could have a plan if something were to go seriously wrong in my life that made me have to work rather than just staying home with my kids. After learning so much about business and what it takes to be an entrepreneur, rather than being more reluctant to start my own business someday, I am more excited about the idea and know that I will do something more with my life than just be a stay at home mom. Although being a great wife and mother is still priority one, being a stay at home mom will not keep me from following my dreams and starting my own business. This is one thing that I think everyone should understand. I was able to interview a woman from my ward, Ramona Chronis, who has started her own business selling sweets on Etsy. As I talked to her, I saw the enthusiasm she has for what she does and the accomplishment she feels as she help provide for her family while also being a great mom. This is something that I want to be able to do with my life as well. I think one of the very most important things that we do in this life is follow our dreams. I do not want to work a job that I hate just because we might need a little extra money. I want to be able to do what I love, and have it feel more like a hobby than a job. Another thing that I learned from this class is that I shouldn’t wait until I am old or until something goes wrong to start my business. There will always be something in the way that will stop me from ever doing anything with my life, so it is important that I take the opportunities as they come and recognize the tools that are put in my path. The best time to do what you love and to become something more is today! I am grateful for this class that has allowed me to set goals for myself and also set up the guardrails needed to keep me on the right path as I start this long journey.

Never Give Up

One thing that stood out to me in the readings and videos this week is that we are not alone. We have the help of the Lord and His gospel to guide us along the way. One of the videos mentioned that there are going to be lots of people who don't believe in us and what we want to do. This is just like Nephi with his older brothers who thought he could not build a boat and he could not get the plates, but we know that we can do Anything with the help of the Lord. A lot of times, our goals may seem too big for our own good and we might feel that we just can't do any more, but we have to remember that we are not alone. The Lord will help us accomplish the things that we must to in this life. We just have to follow his guidance as we go through our lives. Weighing the Costs

This week has been helpful in understanding some of the things that are more difficult about becoming an entrepreneur. As I read Randy Haykin's case study, I came to understand a little more about some of the struggles that entrepreneurs have to go through, even when they are very successful. There are always risks and challenges that come our way when we are trying to do something new and different. Some of these struggles are going to involves the lives of others around us and not just ourselves. It seems that these are going to be the most difficult struggles of all. When it is just yourself who has to take the fall when things go wrong in your business, it does not seem as bad. When it is your own family and also the families of many individuals who work under you that have the risk of losing the jobs or not being successful, this seems like much more of a risk.
