Be the First

One thing that stood out to me in the videos that we were assigned to watch this week was something that Scott Kriens said. He said that we cannot expect to just outsmart other people, other entrepreneurs, when trying to solve the same problem. What we should really be doing is trying to solve a different problem, then we have the advantage of doing it first so we do not have to be smarter, we just have to be the first to solve the problem. This was interesting to me because I feel that all of the ideas that I have come up with so far for businesses have really just been things that people have already done. I can’t expect to outsmart those people, I need to find a problem that has not been fixed yet so I can do it first.
For my $100 project, I have decided to make baby rag quilts. I think this will be a good project because it is something that is in demand right now because it seems like there are so many babies being born and it is cheaper than making full sized quilts. Once I make a little money doing it, I was thinking that I could also re-invest what I have already made so that I can go on to make more baby quilts, or I could even make a full sized quilt or two that will be able to sell for quite a bit more. One of my classmates also mentioned in the discussion board that I could recruit some help from some of the women in the ward to help make some quilts. I’m not sure I’ll do this, but it was an interesting idea to think about.
